Safer access beside open edges

Protection installed early

We plan edge controls before exposed-level activity gets under way.

Interfaces considered

Corners, openings and level changes receive proper attention.

Project stages followed

Agreed changes keep protection aligned with developing structures.

Control falls before exposed work starts

An open roofline or floor edge leaves little room for error. We install edge protection scaffolding to help control fall risks around roof perimeters, floor slabs, openings and developing structures. Guardrails, intermediate protection and toe boards are selected to suit the exposed edge and the activity beside it. Secure interfaces matter too, because a protective run is only useful when it remains properly connected at changes in level or direction. We plan installation before workers need to approach the edge, allowing protection to form part of the work sequence rather than a late addition.

Protection that changes with the structure

Construction edges rarely stay the same for the whole programme. Openings may close, floor levels may develop and access routes can move. We assess the current edge condition, the work being carried out and how people or materials need to pass through the area. Changes can then be coordinated as the structure progresses. We support projects of different sizes, including complex layouts and sensitive buildings where fixing points or interfaces need more thought. Each arrangement is planned around the actual perimeter rather than treated as one continuous, uncomplicated line.

Frequently asked questions

Where can edge protection be used?

It can help control fall risks at rooflines, floor edges, openings and construction perimeters. Suitability depends on the edge condition, fixing options and planned activity.

What does an edge protection system contain?

The arrangement may include guardrails, intermediate protection and toe boards, with secure interfaces at access points and changes in direction. The exact layout is site-specific.

Can protection be changed as construction progresses?

Yes. Changes can be coordinated as levels, openings and work areas develop. Alterations must be controlled so exposed work does not begin before suitable protection is restored.
